In a move to cut electricity consumption and lower household energy bills, the federal government is finalizing a plan to distribute energy-saving fans to consumers on easy, interest-free installments. Approved by the Prime Minister, the initiative is likely to be announced in the upcoming federal budget.
Under the proposed scheme, consumers will be able to purchase energy-efficient DC fans with support from banks and repay the cost through their monthly electricity bills. By replacing conventional AC fans with energy-saving alternatives, the government aims to conserve up to 5,000 megawatts of power.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will also be consulted on the program’s framework and implementation
